In the near future, Turkey will begin a large-scale operation against the Syrian Kurdish self-defense forces east of the Euphrates, said President Tayyip Erdogan.

"We will not allow the creation of a terrorist structure in the east of the Euphrates, we will destroy it. Step by step, we will clear the hill behind the hill," he said, speaking before the parliamentary faction of the ruling Justice and Development Party.
Erdogan stressed that the preparation for the operation has already been completed.

Ankara considers the YPG (Kurdish Self-Defense Forces), which control, with US support, the territory of Syria east of the Euphrates River, a terrorist organization associated with the Kurdish Workers Party (PYD) banned in Turkey.

In January, Ankara launched operations "Olive Branch" against the Kurdish formations in Syrian Afrin, in March, the city came under the control of the Turkish army.
As Erdogan stated, Turkey intends to create a security zone east of the Euphrates. He stressed that Ankara will continue anti-terrorist operations in the border regions of Syria and Iraq.
