US Ambassador to the Russian Federation John Huntsman said that he did not conduct private conversations at his residence Spaso House because of fears of "wiretapping."
"You are being persecuted, they are watching you, they are listening to you no less aggressively than in any country in the world, and for some it means very aggressively. The guys are sitting at the next table and let you know that they are here," the ambassador said in an interview with the newspaper Deseret News, stating that this creates a slight sense of "vulnerability."
Huntsman said that earlier in one of the rooms, where only members of the diplomat’s family have access, a listening device was discovered. “Bug”, he said, hung in the room for about ten years, until it was found thanks to special technology.
