Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has defeated Great Britain’s Harriet Dart 6-0, 6-0 in her first-round match of the Australian Open, reaching the tournament’s second round.

Sharapova will now play against Rebecca Peterson of Sweden, who defeated Romania’s Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-1.

Sharapova won the Australian Open in 2008.

The tournament will conclude on January 27.
