Brussels climate march draws 70,000 protesters

Around 70,000 protesters took to the streets in Brussels on Sunday to raise awareness about climate change, according to information by the Brussels police.

In their climate march, protesters advocated ambitious and socially just measures to reduce CO2 emissions and limit global warming in line with the goals set by the Paris climate agreement in 2015.

A push for renewable energy, cleaner air and more cycling paths was also on the agenda.

Many would-be protesters missed the march due to overstretched public transports, according to media reports.

In December, a similar march also attracted 70,000 people in the Belgian capital.

And on 24 January, some 35,000 students skipped school in Brussels to protest climate change.
