The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) will release into circulation the new UAH 1,000 banknote, NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii has stated.
"Coins: 1, 2 and 5 kopeck coins will no longer be a means of payment in Ukraine and will be removed from circulation. Also, 25 kopecks, which is still a means of payment, will be gradually withdrawn from circulation. The new UAH 1,000 banknote will be introduced,” he said at a briefing on optimization of the denominations of banknotes and coins of the national currency, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The NBU governor noted that following the withdrawal of the above-mentioned coins and the introduction of the new banknote, the hryvnia banknote and coin row will be reduced from 17 denominations to 12 within the next three years. There will remain 6 coin denominations and 6 banknote denominations.
