Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Vasyl Bodnar has received a delegation from the Venice Commission that arrived in Ukraine to study the implementation of the law on the Ukrainian language, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.
The visit of the Venice Commission experts should result in the preparation of an opinion on the implementation of the language law. The Venice Commission should approve a respective opinion at a plenary meeting in December this year.

"Ukraine fully guarantees the protection of the rights of national minorities and proceeds from the belief that the law on the state language is intended to increase the opportunity for national minorities to play a more important role in Ukrainian society," the ministry said.

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, on April 25 passed the law on ensuring the functioning of Ukrainian as a state language. A total of 278 MPs voted for the act. Former President Petro Poroshenko signed the law on May 15.
